Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has issued a show cause notice to Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik on the contempt plea of Gyandev Wankhede. Gyandev is the father of Sameer Wankhede, former Director of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai Zone. Gyandev claimed in his application that in December last year, Malik had given an affidavit in the court that he would not make defamatory statements against his family on social media and in public, but Malik is doing so continuously.
In October last year, a raid on a cruise ship led by Sameer Wankhede claimed to have seized drugs and arrested several accused, including actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, in the case.

Nawab Malik made many serious allegations
After this case, senior leader of Nationalist Congress Party Nawab Malik made many serious allegations against Sameer Wankhede. Due to this, Gyandev had moved the court. Senior advocate Birender Sarraf, appearing for Gyandev, on Tuesday presented the statements made by Malik in separate press conferences in January this year. Saraf, Justice S. J. Kathawala and Justice Nitin Jadhav that Malik made allegations like alleged illegal caste certificate of Sameer Wankhede and illegal extortion from film actors by NCB officials. He also claimed that Malik had also referred to the defamation suit filed by Gyandev during these press conferences.
Wankhede not named
However, advocate Carl Tamboli, appearing for Malik, told the court that his client did not name Sameer Wankhede in the press conferences mentioned by Sarraf. The court questioned why NCP leaders are constantly talking about Samir Wankhede’s caste proof being invalid, while the inquiry committee is yet to take a decision on it. The bench said what are you trying to do? Is there any decision as to whether the caste certificate is invalid or not? If not, then how can he (Malik) say that it is fake? The court has directed Malik to respond to the show cause notice by February 21 when the contempt plea of Gyandev Wankhede will be heard further.
