Mumbai: Shiv Sena MLAs in the Maharashtra Assembly on Monday raised a demand that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Nitesh Rane be suspended for inappropriate conduct with state Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray. Let’s do. Thereafter the proceedings of the House were adjourned for some time.
The issue was raised by Shiv Sena MLA Suhas Kande after the Question Hour. He alleged that last week, when Rane was sitting in the Vidhan Bhawan complex, he made a ‘meow’ when he saw Thackeray going inside the building. Kande said all the members were unanimous that indecent behavior against politicians should not be allowed, but Rane justified his behavior and told reporters that he would continue to do so. Kande said, “Aditya Thackeray is a respected person and he did not pay attention to Nitesh Rane. We will not tolerate this kind of insult to our leader.”

They demanded that either Rane apologize in the House or he should be suspended. Shiv Sena MLA Sunil Prabhu supported Kande. Another party member Bhaskar Jadhav raised the demand that Rane should be permanently suspended from the membership of the assembly. Due to the sloganeering and uproar by Shiv Sena members, the Presiding Officer of the House adjourned the proceedings of the Assembly for 10 minutes.
Significantly, Nitesh Rane is the son of Union Minister Narayan Rane. After the House resumed proceedings, Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis said that Nitesh would be reprimanded for his behaviour. “But it is not right to suspend a member for an incident that happened outside the House,” he said. Earlier, Fadnavis had said that Bhaskar Jadhav used to raise his voice when Nationalist Congress Party leader Chhagan Bhujbal entered the House.
BJP’s Chandrakant Patil said he wondered why the incident which took place outside the House is being discussed in the Assembly. The presiding officer said that a meeting will be held with leaders of all parties on Tuesday to ensure that such incidents do not happen again. (agency)
