Pune: In the meeting of the state cabinet, a decision was taken to waive the tax of school buses. According to this decision, school buses will be given 100% exemption from annual tax for the period from 1st April 2020 to 31st March 2022. This decision has been welcomed by the transport organizations. This decision of the government will benefit about one lakh private buses carrying school students in the state. This claim was made by Baba Shinde, President, Maharashtra State Goods and Passenger Transport Organisation.
Welcoming the decision to give tax exemption to school buses, Baba Shinde said that all the organizations in Maharashtra were demanding relief from the state government for the last one year. We welcome the decision taken by the state government. This decision of the government will benefit about one lakh private buses carrying school students in the state. School bus transport buses are completely closed for the last two years. In this, some people have not given the application (non-use) for not using the vehicle by mistake. But the buses are completely closed, said Shinde.

Pune Bus and Car Owners Association President Rajan Junavane expressed happiness over the decision. He said that constant efforts were made by the School-Bus Owners Association in this regard. Good follow up especially by Anil Garg and his team. School bus drivers and owners will definitely benefit from this decision. We request the government to provide this concession unconditionally.

More than five thousand school buses in the city
There are about five and a half thousand private buses carrying school children in Pune city and around three thousand such buses in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Buses carrying only school children are being taxed at the rate of Rs 100 per seat-per annum, and a bus with 50 seats is taxed at Rs 5,000 per year.
IT company as well as other package tour vehicles should be exempted
At present, only school buses have been given tax concessions by the state government. However, other package tours and vehicles of IT companies are also closed. They too are in great trouble. Therefore, there is a demand for tax relief, concession in bank loan and insurance matters for those vehicles as well.
