The Railways on Friday clarified that it is as per rules to adopt a two-stage selection process for recruitment in Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC). Railways said that there are a large number of candidates in this recruitment examination and there is a rule of two-stage selection process for such examinations.
This clarification of the Railways has come at a time when protests are taking place in many states of the country regarding Computer-Based-Test (CBT) in two phases of the recruitment examination. Along with this, many examinees are also alleging irregularities in the method of conducting the examination. He says that the recruitment process is not transparent and there are many problems in it. One of their allegation is that this exam allows people with higher qualifications to appear, while the posts involved are for those with lower qualifications or qualifications.
The students’ displeasure over the examination turned violent and violent at many places in the past, after which the Railways had to order the postponement of NTPC’s first stage CBT and second stage CBT. Along with this, the Railways has also constituted a high-level committee in this matter, the candidates will submit their report in this matter on March 4 after listening to their concerns and suggestions.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Railways said, “As per the notification issued for the recruitment, if the number of candidates who applied is large and more than one crore, then it is advised to conduct the CBT in two phases. , in which the first stage is used to screen suitable candidates for the second stage CBT and the second stage is conducted with a limited number of candidates, so that there is no broad generalization and the final merit is more equitable and fair. Ho.”
On the question raised about the number of shortlisted candidates for the second stage CBT, the Railways said, “The first stage CBT has been made common for the graduate and 10+2 pass candidates. In the notification it was said that the vacant posts 20 times more candidates will be called for second stage CBT, so as to give an opportunity to sufficient number of candidates to appear for second stage CBT after being shortlisted from first stage CBT.
Railways has also clarified that it is nowhere stated that 7 lakh different candidates will be selected for the second CBT. Railways said, “The second stage consists of five different levels of CBT and a candidate can be shortlisted for more than one level according to eligibility, merit and choice, then in the list of 7 lakh roll numbers. Some names may appear on more than one list.”
