Mumbai : Renowned Kannada litterateur Chandrashekhar Patil, popularly known as ‘Champa’, died on Monday morning in a private hospital due to age-related ailments. (Died) done. He was 82 years old. He was suffering from age-related ailments and was admitted to the hospital last night after his health deteriorated.
Poet, playwright Patil was also the president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad. He was one of the leading voices of the ‘Bandaya’ genre of Kannada literature. He participated in several literary and peasant movements and demonstrations, including the Gokak movement, the Bandaya movement, the anti-emergency movement. He was a staunch supporter of teaching Kannada language in schools. He was a professor of English at Karnataka University, editor of the influential literary magazine ‘Sankarana’ and also the chairman of the Kannada Development Authority. He was also honored with the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award and the Pampa Award.
