Khargone: Curfew has been imposed in the entire city of Khargone in Madhya Pradesh after incidents of stone pelting, some vehicles and houses being torched on Ram Navami procession on Sunday. Officials gave this information. The police had to use tear gas shells to control the situation. Khargone District Magistrate Anugrah P said that curfew has been imposed in entire Khargone. Khargone Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddharth Choudhary sustained bullet injuries during the violence, an official said. Following incidents of stone pelting on Ram Navami processions and arson in some houses and vehicles, the police had to use tear gas shells.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Tilak Singh told reporters on Monday morning, “The situation is under control after 2 pm and no complaint has been received. Police patrol continues. So far more than 70 people have been detained in the search operation.” Responding to a question, Singh said though he has not seen the report, it appears that SP Siddhartha Chaudhary has been shot in the leg and first aid has been given. The DIG said that at least 24 people, including six policemen, were injured in the violence and they have been medically examined.

He has asked people to stay indoors and help in nabbing the anti-social elements involved in the incident. The District Magistrate said the situation is under control and people have been advised to step out of the house only in case of medical emergency. The District Magistrate has warned of strict action for sharing objectionable messages or videos on social media regarding the Khargone incident. The district administration tweeted that permission can be obtained from SDM office, Tehsil office and Kotwali police station for any urgent work except for medical emergency.
Earlier on Sunday, the authorities had imposed curfew in three police station areas of the city and Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) (prohibition of assembly of four or more people) due to large-scale violence on Sunday. According to the information received, some policemen and others including Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddharth Chaudhary were injured during stone pelting. Meanwhile, the district’s in-charge minister and state agriculture minister Kamal Patel said in a tweet that he has directed the officials to take strict action against the rioters.
Divisional Commissioner Pawan Sharma has reached Khargone to take stock of the situation. Khargone Additional District Magistrate Sumer Singh Mujalde said on Sunday that some miscreants pelted stones at the people involved in the procession as soon as the Ram Navami procession was taken out at Talab Chowk located at the district headquarters. Due to this, the police used tear gas shells to control the situation. Some people including policemen have also been injured in these incidents. The district magistrate said that the procession was supposed to make a round of Khargone town, but it was called off half way in view of the violence. (agency)
