Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has demanded the central government to enact a law to provide social security to the people. Gehlot said, “There should be a right to social security for the countrymen. The Center should bring a law to guarantee social security to the people, whether they are destitute, single women, elderly or labourers. Gehlot told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that whether it is Right to Education, Right to Information, MGNREGA or Food Security Act… UPA government led by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had ushered in the era of giving rights to the people and The people of the country should be given the right to social security.
The Chief Minister said, “Machines have their own importance but human labor is very important and it is the duty of the governments to take care of them. They have problems when they get old and are no longer able to work. This is where the role of the government in providing security to them becomes important.”

Referring to the announcement of Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme in the budget 2022-23, the Chief Minister said that like rural areas of the state, needy families in urban areas will also get 100 days of employment. He said, “Whether it is health, employment or agriculture sector… the state government has been taking regular steps for the last three years. During the Corona pandemic, we took the initiative to provide financial assistance to destitute families immediately. Under this, Rs 5500 was given in installments to 33 lakh helpless families during the lockdown, on which about Rs 1800 crore was spent.
Apart from this, a special package has been given to orphan children and women who lost their husbands under the ‘Chief Minister Corona Sahayata Yojana’, he said. According to him, an amount of about Rs 100 crore has been spent so far in this item. Under the package, an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh and a pension of Rs 1,500 per month are provided to women who lost their husbands due to corona infection and Rs 1,000 per month per child for the children of such women.
The Chief Minister said that the government has made a provision of one lakh rupees as an immediate grant for the children who lost their parents due to the corona epidemic and these children would get Rs 2,500 per month till the age of 18, 5 lakh on the completion of 18 years.
