Lucknow: With the protracted war between Ukraine and Russia, it has started having a strong impact on the exports from Uttar Pradesh. Due to the continuation of this war that started last month, orders for export of leather goods, clothing, glass products and perfumes from UP have started getting canceled.
The Russia-Ukraine battle for handicrafts and small industries of the state, which was coming out of the state after facing recession for two years during the Corona period, has become a new disaster. Traders say that once a fight starts, even after it is over, the crisis persists for months and it becomes difficult to get new orders.
most light leather trader
The leather traders of Uttar Pradesh are seen the most lightened by the war that broke out in Russia-Ukraine. In fact, due to the severe cold in many countries of Eastern Europe including Russia-Ukraine, there is a great demand for leather coats, jackets, long boots, caps and many other products made from Kanpur and Agra. The leather merchants of Kanpur alone currently have orders worth Rs 400 crore from European countries and most of them from Russia and Ukraine, which are now in trouble. Kanpur-based leather trader Akhil Gupta says that since two years, the livelihood was running on the basis of the domestic market and now when work has started somewhere abroad, then this new crisis has arisen.

Rs 1200 crore hit on Firozabad’s glass industry
The glass and bangle industry of Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh has also made a special place in the European markets. Every year a large number of glass showpieces, chandeliers go to Europe and America from Firozabad, and for the past few years, the bangles here are also in demand. The glass industry of Firozabad alone is facing a crisis worth Rs 1200 crore. In fact, there is a double whammy on the glass industry of Firozabad, where all the chemicals for making glass are imported from Europe. There has been a sudden jump in the prices of these chemicals because of the war. Apart from this, orders worth 200 crores received by Firozabad have been put on hold as soon as the war started. Utkarsh Verma, a businessman associated with the glass industry, says that if the war goes on for a long time, all export orders can be canceled. If the orders are cancelled, then the glass industry of Firozabad will suffer a loss of 1200 crores. In this city, glass products are in demand in more than 70 countries of Europe besides America, England and France. Firozabad had received orders worth Rs 1200 crore from these countries.
Large number of orders canceled
It is worth noting that the glass industry of Firozabad exports glass products worth about Rs 3500 crore every year. The glass industry of Firozabad provides livelihood to about two lakh people. Exporters of Uttar Pradesh started receiving orders for silk and chicken clothes from European countries just from Christmas after two years of epidemic. Most of the goods were to be delivered by March. Now in the changed situation, a large number of orders have been canceled and there is no message regarding the delivery of the rest. Lucknow-based chicken businessman Ajay Khanna says that apart from Gulf countries, this time orders were received from many countries of Europe including America. Orders started getting canceled after the fight started. He says that orders had come from some countries for the first time and once the chain breaks, it takes a lot of time to connect. According to Khanna, not much, but some exporters from Delhi and Mumbai had booked orders for chicken clothes worth around Rs 200 crore for Europe, which have now been put on hold. He says that seeing the situation, it does not seem that these orders will be able to be fulfilled.
Payment of many also stuck
For the perfume of Kannauj district adjacent to Agra, Europe’s market has been working as a life-saving. Even during the Corona period, there was some export from here and this time a large number of orders have been received. Many perfumers of Kannauj send goods directly to Ukraine and now the payment of many of them has also got stuck.
