Mumbai: The Power Criminal Law (Maharashtra Amendment) Bill for the protection of women was also unanimously approved in the Legislative Council on Friday. Earlier on Thursday, this bill was approved unanimously in the assembly. The bill has provisions for stringent punishment including death penalty for crimes against women.
Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil while presenting this bill in the Legislative Council said that this will give new power to women in the state and their security will be strengthened. Leader of Opposition Praveen Darekar welcomed this bill, but together he stressed on effective implementation of this law. He said that earlier POSCO Act has been brought to prevent exploitation of children. Darekar said that no matter how good a law is, its success rests on implementing it properly.

Provision for not misuse of law
In response to this, Home Minister Patil said that there is a provision for this law not to be misused. He said that there is a provision of imprisonment of 1 year to 3 years and fine of one lakh rupees for registering fake cases.
The security of women of the state will be strengthened
Legislative Council members Bhai Jagtap and Manisha Kayande also congratulated the Home Minister for this bill and expressed confidence that it would strengthen the security of women of the state. The Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Council, Neelam Gohe also congratulated the Home Minister for this bill. Later all the members thumped the table and approved this bill unanimously. Now this bill will be sent to the Governor for approval. After which it will go for the approval of the President. After the approval of the President, this law will be implemented in the state.
