Thousands of women gathered in the capital, Ankara. She said that now she will neither be silent, nor afraid nor will she bow down. People expressed surprise that instead of making reforms regarding women’s safety, the government is taking away their rights from them. A student named Ojgul said, ‘We wake up every morning to read about the murders of women, now it will not be possible to make ourselves feel safe in the country with the government’s decision.’

Thousands of people took part in the protest, which included a large number of women. Some similar protests have been seen in other parts of the country apart from Ankara (Women in Turkey). However, President Erdoan is repeatedly defending his move. He said, ‘Our fight did not start with the Istanbul Convention and this fight is not even over with the exit of this treaty.’ A petition was also filed in the court against Erdoan’s decision, which was dismissed. Three opposition parties opposed the decision on Thursday. The president of an organization associated with women said that he would continue to fight. He said that Turkey has axed its own leg with this decision.
