Nagpur. On the eve of New Year’s Eve, on the instructions of City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, tight arrangements were visible on the streets of the city. From around 8 pm on Friday night, blockades were put in place at major intersections and checking of oncoming vehicles and drivers started. During this, while the drunken drive of the drivers was tested, the trunks of three wheelers and four wheelers etc. were also searched.
Since the district administration and CP Amitesh Kumar had already decided the timing of the DJ captive and the night out and proper information about this was also conveyed to the residents through various mediums. However, the movement of vehicles was visible on the roads till 8 pm due to the permission for movement till 12 pm.
9.00 pm: Birdie flyover closed
The police had already made the planning. The blockade was intensified. Under this, the birdie flyover was closed from both the sides as soon as 9 o’clock in the night. There was a tight blockade of the police at both ends. Similarly, one lane of the double decker overbridge on Wardha Road was closed.
On the other hand, the announcement of closing the shops, panthes etc. was started from the patrol vehicle. Such a sight was visible in all the police stations of the city. Seeing the patrol vehicle of the police, people in a hurry closed the shops. However, during this time, due to the permission of medicine shops and till 12 o’clock in the night, restaurants appeared open.
10.30 pm: CP himself took stock
On the other hand, the city police commissioner Amimesh Kumar himself took to the streets of the city to take stock of the settlement at night. The CP, who reached Sitabardi Chowk at around 10.30 pm, instructed the commuters to stay away from drugs during the New Year celebrations. The same, gave strict instructions to the officers and policemen present that any person found in the drunken drive should be dealt with strictly.
The CP said that about 2500 policemen and officers have been deployed. Our main objective is to stop congestion and drunken drive. During this, all other senior police officers including Co-Commissioner Ashviti Dorje, Additional Police Commissioner Sunil Phulari, DCP Pandit, DCP Awhad, DCP Lohit Matani, PI Sabnis were present.
11.30 am: vehicular movement reduced
Since the police and administration had already fixed the limit of 12 o’clock in the night. Also there was a ban on the DJ party. In such a situation, there was no sight of rioters in the vehicles seen on the roads. However, only vehicular movement was seen till 11.30 pm. After this, their number on the roads kept decreasing. On the other hand, as soon as 12 o’clock in the night, people expressed the happiness of the new year with firecrackers.
