New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mandi in Himachal Pradesh on Monday to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for hydroelectric projects costing over Rs 11,000 crore. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that he will preside over the second function of Himachal Pradesh Global Investors.
The PMO said that Modi has consistently focused on fully utilizing the untapped potential of the available resources in the country and a step in this regard is to make the best use of hydroelectric potential in the Himalayan region. “The projects that will be inaugurated and the foundation stone of which will be laid by the Prime Minister during this period represent an important step in this direction,” it said. Modi will lay the foundation stone of Renukaji Dam project, pending for nearly three decades.
The project was made possible when the Center brought together the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Delhi with Modi’s emphasis on cooperative federalism. The PMO said that the 40 MW project will be built at a cost of about Rs 7,000 crore. This will prove to be extremely beneficial for Delhi, which will get a supply of about 500 million cubic meters of water per year. Modi will also lay the foundation stone of Luhri Phase-I Hydroelectric Project.
The 210 MW project will be constructed at a cost of over Rs 1,800 crore. With this, more than 75 crore units of electricity will be produced per year. Another project for which he will lay the foundation stone is the Dhaulasiddh Hydroelectric Project. This will be the first hydroelectric project of Hamirpur district. The 66 MW project will be constructed at a cost of over Rs 680 crore. The PMO said that this will generate more than 30 crore units of electricity per year. The Himachal Pradesh Global Investors Meet is expected to boost investment in the region through the launch of projects worth about Rs 28,000 crore, the office said.
