Operation Ganga: During the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Saturday evacuated 629 Indian civilians from three C-17 aircraft. IAF brought Indians from Poland, Romania and Slovakia and Hindon Landed at the airbase. So far, the Indian Air Force has flown 10 flights and evacuated 2,056 Indians. Along with this, 26 tonnes of relief goods have also been transported to these countries.
In addition, a special Indigo flight carrying 229 Indian nationals also reached Delhi from Suceava in Romania amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 16 flights are going to come to India in the next 24 hours. So far 48 flights have landed in India under Operation Ganga. This brings the total number of people evacuated from Ukraine to more than 20,000.
The Center this week ordered the Indian Air Force to assist in the rescue operations of citizens of Ukraine and its neighboring countries to augment Operation Ganga.
The IAF has prepared its fleet of C-17 transport aircraft for Operation Ganga. The American C-17 Globemasters and IL-76 transport aircraft are capable of flying long distances with approximately 400 passengers. The C-17 transport aircraft helped in the evacuation of civilians and officials from Kabul. At that time the Taliban occupied Afghanistan and forced the Americans to exit from there.

On 2 March, IAF’s C-17 aircraft had left for Romania carrying humanitarian aid to Ukraine. While leaving for India, they carry relief material on humanitarian grounds with them.
Yesterday, the Air Force sent two more tranches of humanitarian aid to Ukraine which included medicines, medical equipment, relief materials and more.
One flight carried 6 tonnes of material to Romania while the second flight carried 9 tonnes of material to Slovakia. Four installments of humanitarian aid had been sent earlier.
