New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday remembered and paid tribute to the valor and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces personnel who laid down their lives in the Indo-Pak war of 1971.
In a tweet, he said, “On 50th Vijay Diwas, I remember the valor and sacrifice of the Liberation Warriors, Veterans and Brave Jawans of the Indian Armed Forces. Together we fought the oppressive forces and won. Rashtrapatiji’s presence in Dhaka holds special significance for every Indian.”

It is to be known that President Ram Nath Kovind has gone to Bangladesh to participate in the celebrations organized on the 50th Vijay Diwas. On this day in 1971, Lieutenant General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, the Chief Martial Law Administrator of East Pakistan and the Commander of the Pakistani military forces based in East Pakistan, signed the ‘Instrument of Surrender’ for the formation of Bangladesh.
It was signed by Niazi in the presence of Jagjit Singh Arora, representing the Indian and Bangladesh forces in Dhaka. Bangladesh came into existence in 1971 after a nine-month war. (agency)
