ImphalIn Manipur, the first case of infection with the Omicron form of the corona virus has been reported. The Directorate of Health Services said that the 48-year-old man, who returned from Tanzania on Monday, has been confirmed to have the Omicron form of the virus.

The department said that the infected person is a resident of Imphal West district and had recently returned from Tanzania via Delhi. The infection was confirmed in the test of the person on the eighth day of his return to India. His sample was sent to the ‘Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development’, Imphal for genome sequencing. The directorate said the patient has been kept in isolation at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences here and has no serious symptoms.

The temperature, pulse and respiratory rate of the infected person are being continuously monitored. The directorate said that the infection has also been confirmed in three other relatives of the Omicron infected patient but their genome sequencing results are yet to come.
