Nitin Gadkari took a jibe at the leaders, said – “You cannot become a true leader of the public by putting a big cutout”.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, while addressing a national convention of the Indian Student Parliament, on Thursday took a dig at ministers and politicians who are famous by putting up their own hoardings. He condemned the trend of putting up big hoardings on the birthdays of politicians and issuing advertisements in newspapers to celebrate the occasion, saying that this would not make one a true leader of the masses.

The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways said that politics is much more a multi-faceted activity than seizing power as through it the work of building society and country is done by focusing on development. Gadkari said that the politicians who change parties in the quest to get the chief minister or ministerial post, the public does not remember them for a long time.

The senior BJP leader said this during an address on the topic Politics is a means of socio-economic reforms at the 11th Indian Student Parliament organized by MIT World Peace University. Gadkari said that politics is considered as satta karna (politics of power), but this is not the true meaning of politics. Doing politics of power is one of the various activities of politics.

He said that the true meaning of politics is more than Rashtrakaran (politics of nation building), Samaj Karan (social politics), Vikas Karan (politics of development), Dharma Karan (spiritual pursuit), Artha Karana (economic prosperity) and power politics. To give importance to more Lokniti (public policy). The BJP leader said that it is unfortunate that politics done to gain power is considered as real politics.

The Union Minister said that there is a need to change this definition of politics and it is possible with the help of such students who want to join politics and whose aim is not to fulfill their ambitions but to serve the underprivileged sections of the society. Work towards eradicating poverty, unemployment, hunger and making India an economic superpower.

Gadkari said that today great people like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sant Tukaram, Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, Shahu Maharaj, Veer Savarkar, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi are remembered but those leaders who go from party to party and There the Chief Minister and Minister are made. People don’t remember him for long.
