Mumbai: The number of non-covid patients is going to increase in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (Mard), an association of resident doctors in the state, has announced to go on indefinite strike across the state from Friday. In the absence of resident doctors, OPD, operation and ward services will be affected.
All the doctors’ organizations of the country have protested at their own level against the repeated delay in conducting the NEET PG 2021 counseling. Mard also gave its support to this campaign and went on a one-day strike on 6 December. The counseling has not started yet, due to which the doctors of the state have started an indefinite strike. Resident doctors in Mumbai have stopped giving their services since Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, resident doctors of other medical colleges of the state will also not work from Friday. This will not only affect the OPD, as well as non-emergency operations can also be postponed, overall the patients will have to bear the brunt of this strike. Mard President Dr. Avinash Dahiphale said that due to the delay in counseling, the placement of resident doctors is not being done, the workload on the resident doctors is increasing. So we have decided to go on strike from 11 am on Friday. Only emergency cases and hospitalized Covid patients will be treated. Please tell that there are 5000 resident doctors in the state.
Some non-emergency surgeries will not be able to be done during this time.
Dr. Ramesh Bharmal, director of major hospitals and medical colleges of the Municipal Corporation, said that in the absence of resident doctors, senior doctors like head of departments, assistant professors, lecturers would take over in their place. A senior state health official said that this strike by the resident doctors will have a huge impact on the health services, from above, lakhs of patients will suffer due to the unrelenting strike. The absence of a resident will be very costly to the patients as due to less number of doctors, time will be more and the queue can be long. KEM Mard President Dr. Sachin Patidar told that if this problem is not resolved soon, they will also stop providing emergency service.
