The demand for drinking water in urban areas is increasing day by day. Also, waste water from urban areas is discharged into rivers or lakes after treatment. Apart from drinking water, recycling of treated water will save drinking water and make available water of equal capacity to citizens. Waste water generated from water recycling will also be reduced. In this background, in the review meeting of Swachh Bharat and Mera Vasundhara Abhiyan, Commissioner Rajesh Patil has directed the concerned departments to implement the issue of water reuse. Orders issued to make the use of treated water mandatory
As per the circular, the processed water should be used for garden works. For this, water should be supplied through pipes in the parks near the sewage treatment plant and tankers at other places. The circular states that the manure produced at Moshi Waste Depot should be used for horticulture works. It has been made mandatory to use treated water by private agencies appointed for cleaning public toilets in the municipal area. Recycling machines and jetting machines are used by the drainage department for cleaning the drainage line. Orders have been issued to the Drainage Department to make it mandatory for the concerned contractor to use treated water here as well.
Mandatory to use only processed water
The Department of Architecture, Projects and BRTS have been directed to make use of treated water from nearby sewage treatment plants mandatory for various constructions of the Municipal Corporation. The fire brigade department has also been directed to make maximum use of treated water from the nearest sewage treatment plant for fire fighting vehicles. The circular mentions that the departments concerned should enter into an MoU with the contractors that it is mandatory for the contractors appointed by the Municipal Corporation to use only the processed water for the works related to the corporation.
