Palghar: In Maharashtra’s tribal-dominated Palghar district, three days after the routine vaccine for newborns was administered, a 16-month-old baby died. In this regard, a medical officer said on Wednesday that the actual cause of death of the infant is being investigated. Bhausaheb Chhatar, a medical officer posted in Mokhada town, said the viscera of the infant has been sent to JJ Hospital for examination. “The report from JJ Hospital will come after 10 days, after seeing which we will be able to tell the cause of death of the child,” he said.
Dr Chhatar said the infant was given a dose of DPT, MMR and (PCV) booster vaccines on February 9. “The child fell ill and died on February 12,” he said. The doctor said that senior officials of the state government have been informed about the matter. The medical officer said that four other children of the village were also given the routine vaccine on February 9 but they did not face any problem.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased have alleged that the infant died due to wrongful vaccination. Sources said that the deceased Sarvesh Dhodi was a resident of Koshmiseth village and was given MMR and triple polio booster dose on February 10 by a nurse from Government Vashala Health Center.
According to sources, the infant developed fever on February 11 and was taken to a private hospital in the village. After his health deteriorated, he was admitted to Khodla Rural Hospital on February 12 where doctors declared the child brought dead. An official of Mokhada police station said a case of accidental death has been registered and further investigation is on. (agency)
