- 200 posts to be filled
- 258 arrived for the interview
Nagpur. Due to various petitions including Maratha reservation, the Supreme Court has stayed the counseling under the postgraduate admission process in medical colleges across the country. Due to this, shortage of resident doctors has become a serious problem due to non-availability of new admissions in medical colleges. Recently, the resident doctors also went on strike demanding the completion of the admission process soon. The government had assured that the problem would be resolved soon. For this solution, interviews were conducted on Wednesday for the appointment of 200 junior resident doctors in medical.
In this, doctors doing MBBS from various colleges across Vidarbha including Medical, Mayo arrived. Due to which there was a long queue near the dean’s office. Actually, the admission process of postgraduate has come to a halt in counseling. The court has put a stay till the first week of January. This is the reason why the system has faltered due to non-availability of new admissions in post-graduation.
After completing the postgraduate course, doctors are leaving, while the entry of new doctors has been banned for about 8 months. This has increased the workload on the existing resident doctors. For this demand, a statewide strike was also organized by the resident doctors’ organization Mard in the past.
2-3 months optional arrangement
During the strike, Minister Aaditya Thackeray had assured the Central Mard that alternative arrangements would be made before the counseling process starts. After this assurance, the Medical Education Department has given permission to the Dean of Medical to appoint 200 Junior Resident posts. On Wednesday, MBBS doctors from other colleges of Vidarbha including Medical, Mayo also reached for the interview. Most of the appointments are being done on clinical posts. After this the shortage of resident doctors can be filled.
These resident doctors will be given education salary of about Rs 60,000 by the government. Medical Dean Dr. Sudhir Gupta told that this appointment will be for about March. When the counseling of postgraduate will start, the service of these doctors will end. Appointment is being given on this condition.

Like medical, interviews have been held in Mayo on Thursday. These will also include MBBS doctors from all over Vidarbha. The posts of resident doctors in Mayo are less, which is why the competition here will be strong. MBBS doctors who appeared in the interview are also waiting for the counseling.
