In a dire warning, the National Weather Service has posted alerts for “life threatening flash flooding” within the Leominster, Fitchburg space tonight.
The climate service says the warning is for “flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.”
Route 2 is closed on this space and the rains hold coming.
The NWS provides different cities close by are additionally below the alert, together with Westford, Gardner, Holden, Clinton, Athol, Pepperell, Tyngsborough, Groton, Winchendon, Lunenburg, Townsend, Littleton, Lancaster, Templeton, Rutland, Sterling, Ayer and
Westminster.
This is a dire scenario with the alert including: “Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
River Flooding now
The Weather Service has now added river flooding to its watch listing.
Flood Warning for the next rivers in Massachusetts…New Hampshire… North Nashua River At Fitchburg affecting Worcester County. Nashua River At East Pepperell affecting Middlesex, Hillsborough and Worcester Counties. For the North Nashua River…together with Fitchburg…Minor flooding is forecast.
They add this warning is for “FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON TO EARLY THURSDAY MORNING.” (The ALL CAPS is by the Weather Service, which is rarely susceptible to hyperbole.)
