Pune: District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Pune after accepting payment to Educational Technology Company BYJU’S and its Brand Ambassador Actor Shahrukh Khan Reprimanded for not providing education services.
The complaint was filed by Supriya Neralkar, the complainant of Chinchwad, through advocate Pawan Kumar Bhansali, that BYJU’S LEARNING APPLICATION accepted Rs 15,000 through online payment to her child for the education course of classes 4 to 12 and the remaining Rs 1,10,000 Asked to pay through EMI of Rs.

The company had promised that the amount would be refunded if the course was not as per his requirements. When the complainant asked for refund of Rs 15,000, the company refused. Apart from this, BYJU’S had also taken a loan of Rs 1.1 lakh without his consent. Supriya moved the consumer forum in March 2019 when BYJU’S did not refund the amount and took back her tablet, despite repeated reminders and notices. A case was registered against BYJU’S learning app, Think and Learn Pvt Ltd, Ravindran Byju, Riju Raveendran, Divya Gokulnath and actor Shahrukh Khan.

The court also issued notice to him but he neither appeared nor sent any representative. The Forum decided the matter after perusing the documents submitted by the complainant. The court has directed BYJU’S and others to refund Rs 15,000 along with nine per cent interest with effect from October 14, 2018 (the day he made the payment). The forum has ordered the company and others to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation. The court has also asked the company to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to ensure that the loan amount has been paid against the complainant and he is not required to pay EMIs in future.
