Munich, Germany: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met her German counterpart Annalina Baierbock and discussed a wide range of bilateral and global issues including developments in the Indo-Pacific, Ukraine and the situation in Afghanistan. Jaishankar also met his Iranian counterpart H Amirabdullahiyan and had fruitful discussions on bilateral economic cooperation, Afghanistan and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The JCPOA is known as the Iran Nuclear Agreement.
The foreign minister arrived in Germany on Friday to attend the Munich Security Conference (MSC). The MSC is expected to discuss the escalating dispute between NATO countries and Russia over Ukraine.
Jaishankar tweeted, “Discussed a wide range of issues with German Foreign Minister Annalina Baierbock. The main focus was on climate change, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), bilateral and global issues. He also discussed Afghanistan, Indo-Pacific and Ukraine. Excited about today’s meeting.”

In the MSc he will participate in discussions on the Indo-Pacific and lead discussions at the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ organized by the Indian Consulate in Munich and the Observer Research Foundation.
Jaishankar also met Foreign Ministers and other senior representatives on the sidelines of the MSC. He had a “fruitful meeting” with the Iranian Foreign Minister, in which the two leaders discussed economic cooperation and the JCPOA. The Foreign Minister tweeted, “Had a fruitful meeting with the Foreign Minister of Iran. Discussed economic cooperation, connectivity, JCPOA and Afghanistan.
The JCPOA is an agreement with Iran and the European Union, including the P5+1 (China, France, Russia, the UK and the US, plus Germany), on the Iranian nuclear program, signed in Vienna on 14 July 2015. The future of the agreement has been questioned after the US withdrew in May 2018.

The two leaders discussed bilateral and regional issues during their meeting with their Austrian counterpart Alexander Schalenberg. Jaishankar said, “Glad to meet Austrian Foreign Minister Schalenberg. Some old memories of Delhi have come back. Discussed bilateral and regional issues. Looking forward to meeting him in India soon.”
Jaishankar also met Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and they agreed to intensify preparations for the Strategic Partnership Council meeting. He tweeted, “Glad to meet the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia. It was agreed to intensify preparations for the Strategic Partnership Council meeting. His opinion on the challenges facing the global economy is commendable.
In his meeting with his Georgia counterpart David Jalkaliani, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar appreciated his views on the regional situation. “Glad to have met D Jalkaliani, Foreign Minister of Georgia. Our talks are on since my visit in July 2021. His views on the regional situation are useful. Excited to receive him in Delhi.”
The External Affairs Minister also met his Mongolian and Swedish counterparts Battseg Batmunkh and Ann Linde respectively and discussed bilateral cooperation in several key areas. Jaishankar also held a meeting with four MPs from the European People’s Party (EPP) Group, the largest political group in the European Parliament, and discussed transparency, reliable supply chain and world order.
Later, Jaishankar met his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Orescu and discussed bilateral relations. Jaishankar also had “fruitful talks” with Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Havisto. Jaishankar discussed cooperation in the areas of clean technology, digital and high technology with the Minister-President of Bavaria, Markus Soder.
