Ilker Ayci has turned down the offer of the post of CEO of Air India. Bloomberg has given this information in a report. Ilkar IC was nominated by Tata Sons for the post of CEO of Air India on February 14.
Ilker Ayci said his appointment was being “coloured” in the local media, Bloomberg reported. “I have come to the conclusion that it would not be a right or honorable decision to accept this position amidst such assumptions,” he said. The Swadeshi Jagran Manch, an organization affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, had opposed the appointment of IC.
Tata Sons has recently bought Air India from the Government of India. Tata had selected Ilkar IC as the new CEO of Air India. Ilkar Aysi hails from Turkey and is considered an aviation expert as well as close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Security clearance has to be obtained from the Government of India on the appointment of a foreign national to important posts in Indian companies. The President of Turkey has supported Pakistan on many occasions. In such a situation, it was being said in many media reports that security clearance for IC other than Tata could be a bit complicated.
Ilkar IC was to take over the charge of Air India on 1 April. Recently, a report by news agency PTI said that the Ministry of Home Affairs will conduct a thorough background check of Turkish national Ilkar Ayci.
The Home Ministry told reporters that it has not received any communication from the IC, the Tata group, its nodal agency or the civil aviation ministry in the matter so far. He said that as soon as it comes, the process of security clearance will start. It was believed that the Ministry of Home Affairs may hand over the background check of the new Chief of Air India to the intelligence agency ‘RAW’.

The 51-year-old is an alumnus of the 1994 batch of the Political Science and Public Administration Department of Bilkent University, Turkey. In 1995 he did a research project on Political Science at the University of Leeds, England, and in 1997 he completed the International Relations Master’s Program from Marmara University in Istanbul.
IC is the former chairman of Turkish Airlines and the current success of Turkish Airlines is attributed to IC’s leadership. According to The Wall Street Journal, IC is a board member of the Turkish Football Federation, Turkish Airlines Sports Club and TFF Sportif Anonymous Sirketi. He is also a member of the Canadian Turkish Business Council and the US-Turkish Business Council.
