West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) President Mamata Banerjee, with her eyes set on 2024, hinted at an alliance with the Congress, “If Congress wants to .. .’ He said that if BJP is to be defeated, then all parties should go together.
“If Congress wants, we all (general election of 2024) can fight together. Don’t be aggressive for now. be positive. This victory (in four states) will be a big loss for BJP.” He further added, “All political parties, who want to fight BJP, should go along. Congress is losing its credibility. Can’t depend on them.”2

His statement came a day after the Trinamool Congress leadership asked the Congress to come together in a fight against the BJP, as the saffron party won four out of five states.
The Grand Old Party, which has slipped to an all-time low in the recently-concluded elections, accused the Trinamool Congress of being “agent of the BJP” in a sharp rebuttal.
TMC-Congress merger!
Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “TMC is the biggest agent of BJP. Instead, TMC should merge with Congress, if it is so serious as to fight against BJP.”
On Thursday, Kolkata Mayor and senior TMC leader Firhad Hakim offered, “TMC has shown how you can fight a battle against BJP and defeat it (in Bengal). This is the right time that Congress’s TMC. Join us and fight under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee.”
‘Congress has failed, UPA is over’
The chief minister refused to speak about the Congress’ electoral defeat. “I am not saying anything about Congress. The TMC chief had taken the Congress camp by surprise in December with his “United Progressive Alliance (UPA) doesn’t exist” statement.
The attack did not stop here. An editorial in the TMC mouthpiece “Jago Bangla” continued to criticize the old party, writing: “Congress has failed… UPA is over…” It even went on to say that the Congress “consecrated itself”. Locked in the freezer.”
Asked about the PM’s remark that experts would say that the election results decided the outcome of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the chief minister said, “It is impractical.”
