The passenger who was arrested after allegedly making an attempt to stab a flight attendant within the neck had gone on a terrifying rant moments earlier than the assault, threatening that he would “kill every man” on the United aircraft heading for Boston.
The Leominster man’s chilling diatribe was captured on video by a passenger, who filmed 32-year-old Francisco Torres warning of “bloodbath everywhere.”
After his tirade, Torres is accused of making an attempt to stab a flight attendant with a damaged metallic spoon, hitting the United employee on the neck 3 times. Passengers then tackled Torres and he was restrained with the assistance of crew members, earlier than he was taken into custody when the flight landed at Boston Logan International Airport.
“Where’s the Homeland Security with the gun because I’m waiting for them to point the gun at me, so I can show everybody that I won’t die when I take every bullet in that clip,” Torres shouted on the flight, as seen on a video recorded by Lisa Olsen.
“… And then I will kill every man on this plane,” Torres later added. “So where are they? Where’s Homeland Security? Pull the gun. Pull the gun. Where are they?”
He then requested the place the pilots had been diverting the aircraft.
“Because wherever it is, there’s going to be a bloodbath everywhere,” he mentioned. “You can run away. You can all run away if you want. If you run, I won’t kill you. I’m Balthazar.”
In addition to attacking the flight attendant, Torres is accused of making an attempt to open an emergency exit door whereas the aircraft was 1000’s of ft up within the air.
He has been charged by the FBI with one depend of interference and tried interference with flight crew members and attendants utilizing a harmful weapon.
After Torres was taken into custody, he was interviewed by police on the Massachusetts State Police airport barracks. According to the federal prison criticism, he admitted to investigators that he went into the toilet on the aircraft and broke a spoon in half to make a weapon.
When he got here out of the toilet, Torres mentioned he went into the galley, disarmed the door, and tried to open it unsuccessfully.
“Torres had gotten the idea to open the emergency exit door and jump out of the plane,” reads the prison criticism. “Torres admitted to knowing that if he opened the door many people would die.”
When he was confronted by a few flight attendants, Torres mentioned he tried to stab one with a purpose to defend himself.
“Torres stated that he believed the flight attendant was trying to kill him, so he was trying to kill the flight attendant first,” the prison criticism states.
Torres has been banned from flying on United, based on the airline.
The head of the Association of Flight Attendants mentioned the union was “relieved” that nobody sustained life-threatening bodily accidents.
“When incidents like this happen, it not only risks the safety of the crew involved, it takes away from Flight Attendants’ ability to respond to medical, safety, or security emergencies,” mentioned AFA President Sara Nelson. “Bottom line: it places everybody in danger and there’s zero tolerance for that.
“We’re thankful for the FBI’s quick action on this,” Nelson added. “This is another example of the urgent need for a national banned disruptive passenger list. We call on Congress to pass the Protection from Abusive Passengers Act.”
