An “innocent bystander” died after being struck by a stray bullet throughout a taking pictures on the Holyoke Mall over the weekend, in line with police who arrested a suspect and assigned further officers to the mall on Sunday.
“The victim was an innocent bystander to a confrontation between two other people,” the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office stated in an announcement.
Holyoke Police officers responded to the taking pictures on the Holyoke Mall at Ingleside on Saturday at round 6:59 p.m. Upon arrival, police discovered a male sufferer on the scene, and a suspect was instantly taken into custody. Police didn’t instantly identify the sufferer and suspect.
Holyoke Police after the taking pictures reiterated that it was an remoted incident, and that there was no ongoing public security menace.
Police assigned further officers inside and out of doors the mall on Sunday. Police stated they hope to have the ability to maintain that further presence going ahead.
Pyramid Management Group, proprietor of Holyoke Mall at Ingleside, stated in an announcement, “We do not condone violence of any kind in our community.”
“We are actively cooperating with law-enforcement in the investigation of this incident and understand that the suspect was immediately taken into custody and that there is no ongoing public safety threat as it relates to this incident,” Pyramid added. “Our thoughts this evening remain with the victim and their family during this difficult time.”
The murder investigation is being carried out by the Holyoke Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden DA’s Office.
