The government has sought applications from the drone industry for the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. The government had released the notification of the PLI Scheme on 30th September, 2021.
How much will you get incentive?
There is a total incentive of 120 crores, which will be given during three financial years. The Civil Aviation Ministry said on March 11 that the total incentive is almost double of the total turnover of the drone industry in the financial year 2020-21.
How will the calculation be done?
Under the PLI scheme, companies making drones and its parts will get an incentive equal to 20 per cent of the value addition made by them in the next three years. This value addition will be calculated on the basis of annual sales. However, the purchase cost will be deducted in the annual sales for the purpose of calculation. Under this scheme, the share of value addition in the net sales of the drone and its components should be at least 40 per cent.

The application form of PLI scheme is of only one page. Along with this, the certificate of Head of Organization and Statutory Auditor will have to be attached. More than one company in a group can file different applications. However, the incentive on application will not exceed 25 per cent of the total amount earmarked for this scheme.
Till when can I apply?
The ministry has said that companies manufacturing drones or drone parts can apply for incentives under the PLI scheme till March 31, 2022. Aviation ministry Jyotiraditya Scindia had said on September 16 last year that the turnover of the Indian drone industry would reach Rs 15,000 crore by 2026. He had said that due to incentives under the PLE scheme, the turnover will reach this level.
There is a ban on the import of drones
On the 10th of last month, the government had banned the import of drones with few exceptions. It had taken this step to promote the domestic drone industry. Drones for R&D, drones for defense and security are excluded from this ban. But, permission has to be taken for them.
