The likely affected Honda Motorcycles were manufactured in 2020-21 and the units that were recalled were across 13 model ranges.
Honda Motorcycle
American Honda Motor Company has issued a recall for its 28,528 motorcycles in the USA. This has been done due to a glitch in the rear reflector fitment of the motorcycles. The recall notice by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that a dim rear reflector can reduce the visibility of a motorcycle to other drivers, increasing the risk of accident or injury.
The likely affected motorcycles were manufactured in 2020-21 and the units that were recalled were from 13 model ranges. After testing by Korean automotive authorities on a sample of the rear reflectors in December 2020, Honda Korea was informed that the rear reflectors of the Korean market vehicle were defective. Honda investigated the affected population and whether the affected models were out of compliance with the regulations of other countries between January and March 2021.
The company will contact the owners of the affected vehicles.
The number of motorcycles being recalled was determined on the basis of the manufacturing records. The manufacturing range reflects all the possible vehicles that are likely to experience the problem. All the units of the potentially affected models were manufactured between January 2020 and February 2021. Honda will contact all the registered owners of the affected vehicles through mail and ask them to take their vehicle to the official Honda Powersports dealer.
Rear reflector to be replaced free of cost
The dealer will replace the rear reflector free of cost. Owners who have paid for these repairs to be completed at their own cost will be eligible for reimbursement as per the recalled reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.
American Honda Motor Company started dealer notifications from May 24, 2021. The Honor notification is expected to start on or around July 23, 2021 and the recall process is expected to be completed within a month of the Honor notification.
