BOSTON (AP) — A former Massachusetts State Police lieutenant has prevented jail after admitting to his function in a widespread time beyond regulation abuse scandal that roiled the division and led to a number of reforms.
David Keefe, 57, the previous commander of the Weston barracks, was sentenced Thursday to 2 years of probation after pleading responsible to larceny and violating public worker requirements of conduct, the state lawyer basic’s workplace mentioned in a press release Friday.
Keefe was additionally ordered to pay $20,000 in restitution and full 100 hours of group service.
Keefe submitted fraudulent claims for greater than 200 hours of time beyond regulation that he didn’t work in 2015 and 2016, prosecutors mentioned. At the time, he was a supervisor within the now disbanded Troop E, which was answerable for site visitors enforcement alongside the Massachusetts Turnpike.
Dozens of energetic and retired troopers who labored for Troop E have been implicated within the scheme through which they collected time beyond regulation pay for shifts they both didn’t work or didn’t full, authorities mentioned.
