A canine died after falling by the ice in Everett on Wednesday following a water rescue from firefighters who jumped into the frigid river and tried to avoid wasting the little pup.
The rescue mission from the Everett Fire Department sparked a warning that it’s not secure for anybody to be on the ice, particularly with temperatures rising this week into the 50s.
“Unfortunately, it’s that time of year again,” the Everett Fire Department wrote on Facebook. “The local bodies of water appear to be frozen enough to walk on by people and dogs alike. IT IS NOT SAFE FOR ANYONE TO WALK ON THE ICE!”
Around 4 p.m., firefighters responded to the Malden River for a canine within the water. Two firefighters — Dylan D’Ambrosio and Patrick Neary — placed on survival fits earlier than coming into the frigid water and ice.
The ice was too skinny to stroll on, because the firefighters slowly broke by the ice to succeed in the little canine. The firefighters then needed to navigate their manner again by the ice and frigid water to shore.
Crews have been standing by to carry out resuscitation measures on the canine. The canine later succumbed to its accidents.
Everett Fire wrote, “Though the outcome was not the one we hoped for, members of the Everett Fire Department, Everett Police Department and Cataldo Ambulance went above and beyond to attempt to save the dog’s life and should be proud of their efforts.”
