He said relations between India and China are not “normal” in view of the heavy deployment of troops from both sides and a peaceful atmosphere will need to be created in the border areas to restore normal relations. . Jaishankar said this while talking to reporters after a nearly three-hour-long discussion with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Wang and Jaishankar underlined that 15 rounds of talks have been held between the two countries at the level of senior military commander on the issue of the eastern Ladakh standoff and progress has been recorded on several areas of conflict with regard to the withdrawal. Is. “It needs to be taken forward as the completion of the withdrawal process is essential for talks on this,” the foreign minister said.
“I would say for the present situation that ‘work is in progress’ (work in progress),” he said. Naturally it is progressing at a slower pace than the desired level.” He said that his talks with the External Affairs Minister were focused on speeding up this process.

Jaishankar said that for almost three hours with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the real agenda was openly discussed in a clear and comprehensive manner. “We discussed our bilateral relations which have been affected as a result of Chinese actions since April 2020,” he said.
The Foreign Minister said, “We conveyed to the Chinese Foreign Minister the spirit of the country that the restoration of the situation before April 2020 is necessary for normal relations.” Referring to the ongoing standoff in eastern Ladakh, Jaishankar said that a large number of troops have been deployed on the border from both sides, clearly the situation in the border areas is not normal and peace and stability has been affected there.
He said that there would be a need to create a peaceful atmosphere in the border areas to restore normal relations. He said that various aspects of bilateral relations were discussed frankly with the Chinese Foreign Minister.
Jaishankar said, “If you ask whether the situation is normal, then my answer will be ‘No, it is not normal’. He said that as long as there is such large-scale deployment on the border, the situation on the border will not be normal. “We still have areas of conflict, we have made progress in finding solutions in some of these areas and today we had a conversation to take it forward,” the foreign minister said.
Jaishankar met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Friday. During this, there was extensive discussion between the two on various issues including the geopolitical turmoil arising out of the Eastern Ladakh dispute and the Ukraine crisis. Wang had reached Delhi from Kabul on Thursday evening.
