Jan 25 (PTI) Pediatrician Dr Kafeel Khan, who came into the limelight after several children died allegedly due to lack of oxygen in Gorakhpur Medical College in 2017, is contesting against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur Sadar seat. can. Speaking to PTI on Tuesday, Khan said, “I can contest against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur. I am in talks with many parties. If all goes well and some party gives me a ticket, then I am ready.”
To a question as to which party is in touch with him, Khan said he would not reveal the name of the party yet. Voting will be held on March 3 in the sixth phase of assembly elections in Gorakhpur. Khan alleged that he was made a ‘scapegoat’ in August 2017 in connection with the death of 80 children allegedly due to lack of oxygen at the Gorakhpur Medical College. Khan was posted there at the time of the tragic incident at Gorakhpur Medical College. He was arrested in this case accusing him of negligence. He was later dismissed.
Khan said that he is active on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter etc and is presently in Mumbai from where he will travel to Hyderabad and Bangalore to promote his book ‘The Gorakhpur Hospital Tragedy – A Doctor’s Memory Offers Deadly Medical Crisis’. do. This book is based on the Gorakhpur Medical College tragedy. He claimed, “The process of torturing me has not stopped yet. After the release of my book on December 17 last, the police reached my house on December 20 and again on December 28 and this month also and claimed that I am a history sheeter of Rajghat police station in Gorakhpur district and due to the assembly elections such people should be verified. Used to be.”
Khan claimed that he had made personal efforts and collected oxygen cylinders after the supply of oxygen at Gorakhpur Medical College was disrupted, which saved the lives of many children. He said he was projected as a hero in the newspapers the next day, but despite this he was targeted while the rest of the accused were let off.
He alleged that the government deliberately tortured his family and kept him in jail for a long time for making inflammatory speeches. Khan said that in January 2020, he was invoked under the National Security Act saying he had made an inflammatory speech at Aligarh Muslim University but the Allahabad High Court dismissed the charges against him. Khan said that on November 9, 2021, he was dismissed from the job and he has approached the High Court against it.
