‘Disco King’ Bappi Lahiri Dies: Disco King Bappi Lahiri, who took disco music to the heights of Indian cinema in the 80s and 90s of the last century, passed away. He was 69 years old and had several health problems. The doctor treating him has informed about his death. Lahiri died on Tuesday (February 15) night at Criticare Hospital in Juhu. He was admitted to the hospital for about a month and was discharged on Monday, but on Tuesday, when his condition worsened again, the family doctor was called home. He was then brought to the hospital, where he died of OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight.

PM Modi has consoled his family and loved ones on Lahiri’s death. He tweeted that Lahiri’s music encompasses all kinds of expressions and people across generations can easily connect with his work. The Prime Minister has written that everyone will remember Lahiri’s lively nature. On Lahiri’s death, Bollywood actors remembered him as the man who introduced Bollywood to a new type of music.
Lahiri’s last music in “Ganpati Bappa Morya”
Another identity of Bappi Lahiri is a lot of gold chains and sunglasses. He used to wear gold chain for luck and this became his trademark. He sang songs in films like ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Disco Dancer’ and ‘Sharaabi’ in the 70s and 80s. His last work was ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ in September 2021. He gave music to this devotional song which was sung by Indian-American Anuradha Juju Palakurthi. He made a strong mark in Bollywood with songs like ‘Jimmy Jimmy’, ‘Pag Ghungroo’, ‘Intehaan Ho Gayi’, ‘Tamma Tamma Loge’, ‘Aaj Rapat Jaye To’ and ‘Chalte Chalte’. In Bollywood, he last worked for the song ‘Bhankas’ from ‘Baaghi 3’. Apart from Hindi, Lahiri has also composed music in Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Gujarati cinema. Lahiri had also entered politics and contested from Srirampur parliamentary seat in West Bengal in 2014 but lost to TMC’s Kalyan Banerjee.
