Washim. The 210 km between Purna and Akola under Nanded Divisional Railway Office of South Central Railway. The work of electrification of long railway tracks is going on at war level. In the ongoing work for electrification of rail route, after the completion of electrification work from Akola to Washim railway station, now the long journey from Washim to Akola. The demand for running distance trains on electric engines has been made by Washim and various railway organizations including Hingoli District Rail Development Committee.
45 km Testing of railway tracks
On January 10, the electric engine was run between Washim and Lohgarh at a distance of 45 km and successfully tested by CRS. Before this, on March 17, 2021, 35 km from Lohgarh to Akola. The test has been completed by running the electric engine even at a distance of 80 km, thus now the 80 km between Washim and Akola. Electrification work has been completed.
Since at present, trains going from Purna to North India are fitted with electric locomotives in Akola, but now due to the electrification work till Washim, if electric engines are installed from Washim, then the railway department will save fuel worth lakhs of rupees daily.
Therefore, Hingoli District Rail Development Committee has written a letter to the Railway Department demanding to run trains going from Washim to Akola to North India with electric locomotives, due to which the time of trains will also be saved, the speed will also increase and foreign exchange and Save valuable fuel
Electrification work to be completed soon
Electricity poles have also been erected till Hingoli railway station in the ongoing rail electrification between Purna and Akola. The electrification work between Washim and Hingoli is also likely to be completed in two to three months. Due to which the train can run on electric engine from the entire Purna Akola rail route by the middle or end of this year.
All trains going from South to North India are used from Hyderabad to Nanded via Akola, after using diesel engine in Akola, diesel engine is replaced with electric engine because electrification has been done in all parts of the country beyond Akola. There was a constant demand to electrify Nanded-Akola from the year 2012 after the use of diesel engine for only 210 km between Purna to Akola of Nanded Division.
The announcement was made in the railway budget
After which the Union Railway Ministry announced a fund of more than Rs 211 crore for rail electrification between Purna-Akola in the Railway Budget of February 1, 2018. After the Railway Department handed over the contract to KEC Company by issuing tenders for electrification of 210 km between Purna to Akola, KEC Company has done electrification work on a war footing.
On Monday, the CRS between Akola to Washim has successfully tested the running of the electric engine.
