New DelhiDelhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday paid compensation to the farmers whose crops were damaged due to unseasonal rains in October last year. He also announced that a survey to assess the damage caused to the mustard crop in January would be started soon so that compensation could be decided.
Kejriwal said that a country or a state cannot prosper if it does not respect and help farmers. He said that till now the farmers in Punjab have not been compensated for the damage caused to the crops. He said that his government has adopted a simple formula for fixing the compensation to avoid any problem in payment.

If the loss is less than 70 percent, then 70 percent compensation has been fixed and if the loss is more than 70 percent then 100 percent compensation has been fixed. The compensation has been fixed at the rate of Rs 20,000 per acre. The Chief Minister said that he is like the son and brother of farmers in Delhi and the doors of his government are always open for them.
Compensation of about Rs 55 crore has been given to 45,000 farmers in Delhi. The crops of these farmers were ruined in October last year due to unseasonal rains. Revenue Minister Kailash Gehlot and Chief Secretary Vijay Dev expressed hope that the concerned officials will ensure that the compensation amount is paid to the affected farmers at the earliest.
