Bharat Biotech said the price of the vaccine depends on several factors such as cost of ingredients and raw materials, product failures, at risk product development outlay, product outlay, product overage, entire capital cost to set up adequate manufacturing facilities, SAIL and distribution costs, purchase levels, and commitments in addition to regular business expenses.

It also explained that the Covaccine is a whole-virion inactivated Vero Cell vaccine and involves a more complex manufacturing process. Talking about the high prices of Covaccine for the private sector, the company said that this is purely for fundamental business reasons.
The company said that as directed by the Government of India, less than 10 per cent of the total production of the vaccine till date has been supplied to private hospitals, while most of the remaining quantity has been supplied to the state and central governments. was. In such an environment, the average price charged by Bharat Biotech for supply is less than Rs 250 per dose.
