Chandigarh: Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday hit out at the Congress for blaming the anti-incumbency wave in his four-and-a-half-year tenure in the state for its poor performance in the assembly polls, saying the party leadership will never learn. Punjab Lok Congress chief Singh was sacked as chief minister last year. He questioned the Congress party as to who was responsible for the party’s defeat in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.
Singh tweeted, “The Congress leadership will never learn. Who is responsible for the shameful defeat of Congress in Uttar Pradesh? What about Manipur, Goa, Uttarakhand? The answer is pretty obvious, but as always I think they will avoid understanding it.” Singh’s remarks came a day after Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said that in Punjab, even though the party presented a humble, clean and grassroots leadership, it reflected the 4.5-year anti-incumbency wave of the Amarinder Singh government. Failed to do away with and people voted for change.”
The @INCIndia leadership will never learn!
Who is responsible for the humiliating defeat of Congress in UP? What about Manipur, Goa, Uttrakhand?
The answer is written in BOLD LETTERS on the wall but as always I presume they will avoid reading it. https://t.co/Dp646fwQgR

Congress chief spokesperson Surjewala had yesterday said that in Punjab, the Congress made Charanjit Singh Channi, from a modest background, the chief minister, but the anti-incumbency wave that followed Amarinder Singh’s nearly four-and-a-half-year rule caused damage to the party.
Surjewala had said, “People in Punjab have voted for change. We congratulate the winner.” “We fought elections well in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, but could not live up to the expectations of the people. We have to learn and work hard. We fought elections on issues of the people, apart from the politics of casteism and religious polarization, but the emotional issues prevailed over the issues related to the people.
Surjewala said, “The election results of five states are against the party’s expectations. We were expecting good results in Uttarakhand, Goa and Punjab, but we accept that we failed to get the blessings of the people.” The Congress had to face a humiliating defeat in the Punjab Assembly elections. AAP won 92 seats in the 117-member state assembly. At the same time, Congress got only 18 seats.
