Cape Cod shark sightings had been popping up on the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy’s Sharktivity app on Tuesday, as nice white shark season hit full swing with a number of shark alerts.
It felt just like the busiest day of the Cape shark season to date, as extra of the apex predators come north to the area to hunt for seals in the summertime and fall.
The busy day included a “Shark Alert” posted at 12:33 p.m. for an Orleans seashore.
“Shark spotted south of Callanan’s Pass, 500 ft offshore heading SE,” the alert on the Sharktivity app reads.
Earlier within the day, a shark making an attempt to feast on prey had been reported close by.
“Attempted predation — right in wash,” the shark sighting put up reads.
Then one other shark alert was issued by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy for Jeremy Point off of Wellfleet simply earlier than 1 p.m.
“Badly bitten seal on Jeremy Point tip,” the alert reads. “No sighting of a white shark.”
Other sightings on Tuesday had been off of Chatham’s Monomoy Island, a hotspot for shark exercise in the summertime and fall.
“White shark spotted by pilot 100 yards outside the channel from south inlet,” a put up reads.
“Small white shark moving south along Monomoy Island, 100 yards offshore,” one other sighting states.
This shark exercise alongside the Cape comes after swimming was banned at a Nantucket wildlife refuge following shark sightings and predations on seals.
