New Delhi. Today is the birthday of Chakravarti Rajagopalachari (C. Rajagopalachari), a leader of the country’s foremost freedom struggle and close to Mahatma Gandhi. He was born on 10 December 1972 in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. Also he was the first Indian Governor General of independent India. Not only this, the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru wanted to make him the first President of India, but it could not happen.
Please tell that he is also called Chanakya of modern Indian history. At one time he was a great lawyer. At the same time, the credit for bringing him into politics goes to Mahatma Gandhi. However, there is an interesting story of how he himself became a relative of Gandhiji. has
Chakravarti Rajagopalachari is more commonly known as Rajaji. But at the same time he was a lawyer, writer, politician and philosopher. His father had been a judge in the court of Salem in Tamil Nadu. Rajaji was a genius in studies since childhood. He was always first class pass. However, Gandhi became the reason for Rajaji’s entry into politics. Gandhi’s non-cooperation movement had such a huge impact on him that he left his established practice and started wearing Khadi himself.
It is said that Rajaji’s legal position was so high that he became the first lawyer to buy a car in Salem. But then he changed his mind because Gandhi’s untouchability movement and programs of Hindu-Muslim unity influenced him the most. After the elections held in 1937, Rajaji became the Prime Minister of Madras (then considered the equivalent post of Chief Minister). In 1939, when the Viceroy took a unilateral decision and pushed India into World War II, he resigned from his post in protest.
Gandhiji’s friend and close adviser
Rajaji was very close to Gandhiji. Often whenever he had to seek advice on serious matters, he often remembered Rajaji. The intimacy of the two grew so much that Rajaji later sent his daughter to live in Gandhiji’s ashram. When Rajaji’s daughter Lakshmi was living in Wardha’s ashram, she and Gandhiji’s younger son Devdas fell in love.
finally became mutual
Then Devdas was 28 years old then and Lakshmi was only 15. Then neither Gandhiji himself nor Rajaji was in favor of this marriage. Perhaps due to being of different castes, both were not ready for this at that time. He made a very difficult condition with Devdas that he should remain completely separate from Lakshmi for five years. If even then both of them will continue to have love for each other, then they will be married. So did happen. Then both got married. In this way Rajaji and Gandhiji also became samadhi among themselves.
warned about partition
Yes, you read it right, Rajaji was the first person who had given his consent to the partition of the country in the Allahabad Congress session in 1942. Although at that time he was strongly opposed to this, but he did not care about it as such. However, in 1947, the same thing happened, what he had said five years earlier. All these were the reasons that the Congress leaders also considered his foresight and intelligence to be iron.
Raja ji was also awarded ‘Bharat Ratna’ in the year 1954 after India got independence. He was also very rich in scholar and wonderful writing talent. Also he was a very good writer in Tamil and English. His commentaries on ‘Gita’ and ‘Upanishads’ are famous even today. He died tragically on 28 December 1972 in Chennai.
