Lucknow : In the upcoming assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh, all the parties engaged in bringing Brahmins to their side and raising the question of their displeasure with the BJP have suffered a setback. On Sunday, Vinay Shankar Tiwari, MLA son of former minister Pandit Harishankar Tiwari, who is considered a big leader of Brahmin society in Purvanchal, former MP elder son Bhishma Shankar Tiwari alias Kushal Tiwari and nephew and former Chairman Legislative Council Ganesh Shankar A sitting BJP MLA, Jai Choubey, along with Pandey joined the SP. Alleging atrocities against Brahmin society and promoting caste specific, these leaders have spoken of working for the formation of the next government of SP.
In the presence of SP President Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday, BJP MLA Digvijay Narayan Choubey alias Jai Choubey from Khalilabad assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh and recently expelled MLA from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Vinay Shankar Tiwari and other leaders including Samajwadi Party (BJP) on Sunday. Trouble will arise for BJP in Purvanchal
In view of the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, in terms of politics of Purvanchal, it is being considered as a big setback for BJP and BSP and important achievement for SP. While the family of Harishankar Tiwari holds a significant position among Brahmins in Purvanchal, Jai Choubey is a strong leader of Basti Mandal. The impact of Harishankar Tiwari family being with SP can be in the seats of Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Basti, Santkibarnagar, Maharajganj, Ballia, Siddharthnagar to Gonda and Balrampur. Harishankar Tiwari is a well-known and respected face among Brahmins in these districts. The Tiwari family played an important role in connecting the Brahmins in the BSP’s campaign to come to power in UP in 2007. The departure of Vinay, Kushal and Ganesh Pandey is a big setback for the BSP as well as trouble will arise for the BJP in Purvanchal.

Vinay Shankar Tiwari, who has been vocal about discrimination and atrocities against Brahmins, was angry with the BJP as well as his own party BSP for some time. He had also met SP chief Akhilesh Yadav in the first week of this month. After this, last week Vinay Shankar Tiwari, his elder brother Kushal Tiwari and Ganesh Shankar Pandey were expelled from the BSP on charges of indiscipline.
In Uttar Pradesh, for the past few days, there has been a competition among all the parties to bring Brahmins into their fold. From the ruling BJP to the SP and the Bahujan Samaj Party, different Brahmins are organizing conferences and claiming to attract them. In Uttar Pradesh, there is talk of displeasure with the BJP over the issue of atrocities on Brahmins with Kshatriya being the Chief Minister and giving preference to officers and others of the same caste. Every party is trying to bring Brahmins dissatisfied with the BJP into their fold.
