Bhiwandi: For the first time in the history of Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation, a record figure of Rs 85 crore 51 lakh tax collection has been reached. According to the orders of Municipal Commissioner Sudhakar Deshmukh, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner (Tax) of Municipal Corporation Deepak Jhinjhad, the team of municipal officers, employees worked tirelessly and filled the empty vault of Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation with money. Giving the above information, the Deputy Commissioner (Tax) of Municipal Corporation Deepak Jhinjhad has appreciated all the officers and employees involved in tax collection.
It is worth mentioning that Municipal Commissioner Sudhakar Deshmukh, citing the economic plight of the Municipal Corporation, had given strict orders to the Deputy Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Deepak Jhinjhad to recover the outstanding tax from the property holders for the all-round development of the city. On the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner, the Municipal Deputy Commissioner (Tax) Jhinjhad worked hard to collect the tax by forming a team of employees like Municipal Officers, Ward Officers, Land Clerk etc. The Municipal Commissioner was monitoring the recovery works from time to time, so that the record data of recovery could be obtained.

According to Deepak Jhinjhad, the Municipal Corporation owes about Rs 565 crore to the property holders under the Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation area. Despite the efforts of the municipal administration, the record of tax collection of more than 10% in the time span of about 20 years has not reached forward. Due to the always empty vault of the Municipal Corporation, the Municipal Administration has proved to be unsuccessful in resolving the basic problems of the citizens. Abhay scheme was also announced by the Municipal Administration from 15th December for the convenience of the defaulters. During the Abhay scheme, the team of municipal officers has succeeded in recovering 85 crore 51 lakh rupees by going to the outstanding tax holders.
Now strict action will be taken against defaulters
The Deputy Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Deepak Jhinjhad has directed the property holders to deposit the outstanding tax without any delay. The tax defaulters have been warned of strict action under the Municipal Corporation rules. Jhinjhad said that tap connections of 2,500 people who did not pay taxes have been disconnected. 164 property seals and 63 properties have been confiscated by the Municipal Corporation. Around 2,000 property holders have paid tax through online mode. For the first time in the history of the Municipal Corporation, the record recovery figure of Rs 85 crore 51 lakh has been achieved from the municipal tax defaulters.
Details of tax collection under Divisional Committee
- Divisional Committee No. 1: 23 crore 40 lakh
- Divisional Committee No. 2 : 16 crore 73 lakh
- Divisional Committee No. 3: 17 crore 50 lakh
- Divisional Committee No. 4: 15 crore 16 lakh
- Division Committee 5: 9 crore 72 lakh
In total, 85 crore 51 lakh rupees including 82 crore 51 lakh cash and 3 crore money order were collected from the tax defaulters and deposited in the coffers of the Municipal Corporation.
