West Bengal Municipal Election Results 2022: Counting of votes is underway in four municipal corporations of West Bengal. Trends indicate that the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is likely to make a clean sweep in all the four civic bodies – Asansol, Bidhannagar, Chandannagar and Siliguri.
TMC is leading in comparison to opposition parties in Siliguri, Bidhannagar, Chandannagar and Asansol municipal elections, while BJP, Left parties and Congress are trailing in all these municipal corporations. Voting for the municipal elections was held on February 12.
According to the Indian Express, in Biddhannagar, TMC has won 39 out of 41 seats while Congress has won one ward. On the other hand, opposition BJP and CPI(M) failed to open their account. In one ward, an independent candidate won.

At the same time, the ruling party is leading in 37 out of 47 seats in Siliguri. While BJP is leading in five seats, it is followed by Left (4) and Congress (1). In 2015, Left won 23 seats and TMC won 17 seats there. TMC’s vote share in Siliguri was 78.72 per cent, while BJP and CPI(M) secured 10.64 per cent and 8.5 per cent votes, respectively.
Talking about Asansol, here too TMC is leading in 54 wards out of total 106, while BJP is leading in 4 wards. Here BJP has won three wards and CPI(M) two wards. At present, the counting of votes is going on here.
Apart from this, TMC has won 31 out of 32 seats in Chandannagar, while CPI(M) has won in one ward. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee thanked the people for her party’s “massive victory” in the civic polls and described it as a victory of the people.
The Chief Minister will be on a four-day tour of North Bengal on Monday amid TMC’s unilateral victory in the municipal elections and the proposed elections to 108 municipalities on February 27. This visit of Mamta Banerjee is very important regarding the proposed elections in 108 municipalities of Bengal.
In December, the TMC won 134 of the 144 seats in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections, while the BJP came second with three seats, while the Congress and the Left won two seats each. In 2021, the TMC returned to power in the state for the third time in a row, winning 203 out of 272 seats. The BJP, which was aiming to win over 200 seats, got only 77 assembly seats.
