Pimpri : Auto rickshaw drivers of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad on Monday staged an agitation in front of the Pune RTO for various demands, including the closure of illegal two-wheeler rides by companies like Ola, Uber. In this, Baba Kamble, founder president of Maharashtra Rickshaw Panchayat said that instead of solving the issue of rickshaw pullers pending with the government, the state and central governments are working to increase it further. The government has added to the trouble of rickshaw pullers by illegally bringing two wheelers. Baba Kamble accused the three wheeler government of neglecting the rickshaw pullers and also said that the central government is supporting Ola, Uber and capitalist companies.
Baba Kamble further said that illegal two wheelers have been introduced in Pimpri-Chinchwad Pune city and this illegal app of Ola Uber has affected the rickshaw business to a great extent. Rickshaw drivers are starving. Due to this there is huge anger among the rickshaw pullers. In protest, some organizations have called for an indefinite ban on rickshaws, but this is very wrong. The economic math of the already troubled and tired rickshaw pullers has worsened due to COVID. Rickshaw drivers are tired of installments and it has become difficult for them to pay installments. Rickshaw drivers are plagued by many issues like how to make a living, children’s education, school fees, college fees. In such a situation, they will suffer financial loss by stopping the rickshaw.

Central and state governments are fighting the poor with each other and helping big capitalists and entrepreneurs. Injustice is being done to rickshaw pullers. This should stop illegal bikes. Rickshaw Driver Welfare Board should be established. The enhanced fine should be abolished. Free rickshaw license should be cancelled. Baba Kamble said that there was agitation for other demands. There have also been incidents of assault on rickshaw pullers in many areas. Baba Kamble said that he would not tolerate this bullying. Baba Kamble also warned that if the problems of the rickshaw pullers were not resolved immediately, then there would be a fierce agitation. This movement was started after laying wreath at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial in Pimpri at 10 am. Balasaheb Dhawale, Laxman Shelar, Anil Shirsat, Ravindra Lanke, Sanjay Daundkar, Dhananjay Kudale, Jafar Sheikh, Tushar Londhe, Suresh Sonawane, Avinash Jogdand, Deepak Kusalkar, Pradeep Ahire were present on the occasion.
