Software major Wipro’s founder Azim Premji has retained his top spot among India’s Philanthropist Billionaires for the second time. The Indian IT giant donated Rs 9,713 crore during the financial year 2020-21. According to an average estimate, donations of up to 27 crores per day.
According to the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021 released on Thursday, Premji increased his donations by 23 per cent during the last financial year.
The Azim Premji Foundation increased its allocation for the pandemic from Rs 1,125 crore to Rs 2,125 crore to scale up the work on vaccination in ten states. The partner had also said to increase it further if needed.
Shiv Nadar, Founder-Chairman, HCL Technologies has once again retained the second position in the list with an annual donation of Rs 1,263 crore.
Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani was at the third position with a donation of Rs 577 crore during the financial year. Kumar Mangalam Birla was fourth on the list with a contribution of Rs 377 crore.
Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani took two places in the list this year, reaching fifth place with a total donation of Rs 183 crore. The Hinduja family occupied the sixth position in the list with a donation of Rs 166 crore.
The Bajaj family was ranked seventh in the Hurun India Philanthropy List with a donation of Rs 136 crore. The eighth rank jointly went to Gautam Adani and Anil Agarwal for donations of Rs 130 crore during FY2011, while the earlier donations increased by 48 per cent, the latter reduced them by 40 per cent, according to the list.
The Burman family of Dabur Group was ranked 10th with a donation of Rs 114 crore, a rise of 502 per cent. AM Naik, former chairman of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), ranked 11th on the list with a donation of Rs 112 crore, has pledged to donate 75 per cent of his earnings for charitable purposes.
This year 17 pairs were seen in the list, with a total donation of Rs 261 crore. With a donation of Rs 50 crore, investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala made it to the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021 as the most generous entrant.
In addition, Zerodha cofounders Nitin and Nikhil Kamat pledged Rs 750 crore over the next few years to support individuals, organizations and companies working on climate change solutions. He is ranked 35th in the list. Nikhil Kamat, 35, is also the youngest player in the list.
