Lakhimpur Kheri violence case: Ashish Mishra, the prime accused and son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Trainee, got bail from Allahabad High Court in the violence case on October 3 last year in Tikoniya village of Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. According to news agency ANI, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has granted bail to the main accused Ashish Mishra. Mishra will now be able to come out of jail.
A bail application was filed by the Allahabad High Court on behalf of Ashish Mishra, but the relief was not received. However, this time the court has granted him bail. Ashish Mishra is accused of killing farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri by ramming a car.
On October 3 last year, four farmers, including Nachhatar Singh, were killed in violence during a farmers’ protest in Tikoniya village. Four others including a journalist were also killed in the incident. Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish was arrested as the main accused in this case.
On October 3 last year, angry farmers were protesting against the visit of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who was going to attend an event in Teni’s village, when the violence in Tikoniya village took place. Including eight people had died.

The deceased farmers included Nachhatar Singh of Dhaurhara in the district and Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Palia. The video of the incident had gone viral on social media, in which a speeding jeep was seen trampling farmers. Teni’s son Ashish has been arrested as the main accused in this case. There is a lot of resentment, especially in the Sikh community, over the incident.
Tikoniya village comes under Nighasan assembly constituency, there are about 15,000 Sikh voters in Nighasan area. By the way, it is a Muslim majority seat. There are about 80000 Muslim voters here. Apart from this, there are about 28000 Mauryas and about 22000 Kurmi voters. Otherwise Teni’s son Ashish was going to contest from Nighasan seat on BJP ticket and he would have won. But after his arrest in the Tikoniya case, Ashish’s political career has been eclipsed for the time being.
The opposition parties had launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party over the Tikoniya incident and are demanding the arrest and dismissal of Teni. Teni is counted among the big leaders of Lakhimpur Kheri. In 2011, his influence grew after leading the movement in the case of rape and murder of a girl at the Nighasan police station, and in the next year’s assembly elections, he became an MLA from Nighasan seat on a BJP ticket. After that in 2014 and 2019, he was elected MP from Lakhimpur Kheri.
The parliamentary constituency of Teni consists of Palia, Nighasan, Lakhimpur, Srinagar and Gola Gokarna Nath seats. In the last assembly elections held in the year 2017, the BJP had won all the eight seats in Lakhimpur Kheri district. However, despite being the MP from Lakhimpur, Ajay Mishra Teni is not showing any special activity in the assembly election campaign in the district. BJP does not want to take any risk by putting Teni forward.
