American e-commerce giant Amazon on Thursday proposed talks with Futures Group to end the ongoing legal dispute between the two sides and find an amicable solution.
Senior advocate Gopal Subramaniam, representing Amazon, proposed during the hearing in the Supreme Court today that both the parties should hold formal talks without mediators to end legal disputes and find an amicable solution.
The Delhi High Court has stayed the ongoing arbitration proceedings between e-commerce giant Amazon and Future Group. Amazon has appealed against this in the Supreme Court, on which a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana was hearing today.

The Supreme Court deferred the hearing due to pending cases before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) and the Delhi High Court. However, at the same time, it also appealed to both the parties to find an amicable solution.
The Supreme Court said that efforts should be made for an amicable settlement, but if both the parties are not able to resolve it, it is ready to take a decision on the dispute.
Future Group did not oppose the motion and urged the court to re-hear the matter after a period of 10 days. During this, she can negotiate with other parties along with Reliance.
Amazon sought a stay on the Delhi High Court and the NCLAT from issuing any final orders during these 10 days, which was rejected by the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Future Group has sought an undertaking from Amazon not to take any new legal action against it during these 10 days. Arguing for the Future Group, Senior Advocate Harish Salve cited a news report indicating Amazon’s intention to initiate criminal proceedings against the Future Group. Amazon’s lawyer called the report “false”. The Supreme Court can now hear the matter next on March 15.
