All crew members of the Ever Given freight cargo container ship trapped in Suez Canal, Egypt, are Indian. Crew members aboard the ship are currently safe. On Tuesday, the traffic jam got stuck on the world’s busiest waterway due to the stuck ship. The company operating this ship has given information about it. The ship’s operating company, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, said the ship’s 25-member crew members were safe.
Apart from the Indian crew members, two officers of the Egyptian Canal Department are also present on the ship. Both these rights boarded the ship on Tuesday morning so that it could be instructed. Company owner Shui Kishen Kaisha said, all crew members came from India. These people are safe and the company is trying to resolve the situation as soon as possible. But this is proving extremely difficult. On Tuesday, the 400-meter-long Ever-Given ship got stuck in the Suez Canal. It was told that this happened due to sandy winds and dusty thunderstorms.
Suez reduces the distance between Europe and Asia
According to the BBC report, at least 150 ships are waiting to cross the Suez Canal. The importance of the Suez Canal for international trade can be understood from the fact that about 12 percent of global trade is through this narrow canal connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea. The distance between Asia and Europe is reduced considerably through the Suez Canal. Through this canal, ships do not have to roam the whole continent of Africa to go to Europe.
It can take weeks to get a ship out
Experts say that if traffic in the canal is not restored quickly, the ship operators will have no other option but to adopt an alternative route. In this way, ships will have to travel to Europe, passing through the southern part of Africa. Traveling through this route increases the time by about two weeks. Peter Berdowski, CEO of the Dutch company Boskelis, said it was too early to say how long there could be a delay in getting the ship out. He said that this work may also take weeks. It depends on how the situation is.
