MumbaiOn the instructions of the State Election Commission, after the completion of the process of delimitation of the wards, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had invited objections and suggestions from the general public. So far, 100 complaints have been received by BMC against ward reorganization. This information was given by Additional Commissioner Suresh Kakani of BMC. The hearing will be held before the committee appointed by the Election Commission from February 22 to settle the complaints received by the BMC. After the completion of the hearing, the report will be sent to the State Election Commission on March 2.
The last BMC elections were held in February 2017. The term of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation is ending on March 8. Elections may get delayed as OBC reservation is not yet settled. Meanwhile, the state government has decided to appoint an administrator on the BMC. The date of BMC elections may extend to April-May or even beyond.

Opposing the delimitation of wards held last time, the Congress had alleged that the BJP has reorganized the wards as per their convenience. In the elections that followed, the BJP got astonishing results. BJP had 82 corporators elected. This time the number of wards has been increased from 227 to 236. The BMC has published the draft of the reorganized wards on its website on February 1.

BMC Additional Commissioner Suresh Kakani said that the last date for inviting complaints and suggestions is February 14. Out of 100 complaints received so far, organizations, associations, former and present corporators have been registered. The complaints include separation of slums from wards, division of wards, changes in boundary lines and addition of a certain area to the ward.
