25 new schemes included in the budget
It is noteworthy that even though no major new projects have been announced this year, 25 new schemes have been included in this year’s budget to provide facilities and entertainment to Thanekars. Due to the outbreak of Corona Virus and its impact on all industries, businesses and employment, the expected revenue was not received from the rest of the Municipal Corporation except for the expected taxes, rates and duties. As a result, the financial position of the Municipal Corporation weakened. The original budget for the year 2021-22 was 2755 crore 32 lakh. Although some departments are not getting the expected revenue, but for the financial year 2022-23, a revised budget of Rs 3299 crore has been presented, which is Rs 544 crore 32 lakh more than the previous year.
Thanekars get new projects
- The city of Thane is known as the city of ponds. To maintain this identity of the city, there is a plan to beautify various ponds this year and a provision of Rs.10 crore has been proposed for this.
- 5 crore for the redevelopment of Jambli Naka Market
- An amount of Rs 5 crore has been proposed for the development of Shivaji Mandai vegetable market and fish market at Jambhali Naka.
- A provision of Rs 10 crore has been proposed in this budget to make adequate parking arrangements in the city. Also, a provision of Rs 10 crore is proposed for underground parking.
26 crore for repair and updation of public toilets
An amount of Rs 11 crore will be started soon and a provision of Rs 15 crore has been proposed for repair and modernization of toilets in all the slums of the city. A total of Rs 26 crore will be available for repair and upgradation of toilets.
155 crores for beautification of the city
The Thane Municipal Corporation has planned to undertake an ambitious city beautification project. A detailed project plan has been prepared for various works under the beautification of the city and soon works worth Rs 130 crore will be done. For this an additional provision of Rs 25 crore has been proposed in the budget. A total of Rs 155 crore will be available for beautification of the city.

142 crore debt on Thane Municipal Administration
107 crore 67 lakh grant was expected for the financial year 2021-22. Till the end of December 2021, 322 crore 15 lakh grants have been received. 149 crores mainly for cluster scheme, 24.15 crores from 15th Finance Commission and 48.30 crores for air quality subsidy, Rs 342 crores 97 lakhs in the improved estimate sheet due to additional grant of Rs 5 crores for Majhi Vasundhara Award. Expectations have been kept and a grant of Rs 111 crore 70 lakh is expected to come for the financial year 2022-23. Also, the Thane Municipal Administration has a debt of 142 crores.

2,140 crore revenue expenditure
We all know that there is insufficient funds for development works as there is huge outlay for medical services and facilities in Corona emergency. In this financial year, provisions have been increased in the revised budget on some major aspects of revenue expenditure. This includes Rs 223 crore for corona control measures, Rs 44 crore for water purchase and Rs 76 crore for transport services. Therefore, in the revised budget, the revenue expenditure has been increased to 2140 crore 23 lakh. 935.37 crore was proposed for capital expenditure. Capital expenditure for this financial year along with corporator fund spillover, ward improvement fund spillover has been reduced by some amount, backward class fund spillover has been increased and capital expenditure up to 1119 crore 1 lakh has been exceeded.
Rs 149 crore for the cluster
An ambitious cluster plan for Thanekar has also been given an important place in this year’s budget. A huge provision of Rs 149 crore has been made in this budget. Being an election year, the cluster scheme has been included in the budget to appease the voters.
